The greatest reward in doing for others is having done so.

A DONOR

I first became involved as a donor to United Way when I took a job in Muscatine several years ago.  I was not very knowledgeable about United Way at first, but found it to be a good organization in support of many worthwhile charities in the area.

Through my volunteer participation in the United Way community investment process, I learned about the vetting process used before making annual grants to the many programs and agencies United Way supports.  Any donor can feel assured their contribution is being used as intended and the agencies funded must show measureable outcomes with their programs.

There are so many deserving programs today vying for your charitable dollar.  What many lack is transparency and accountability to the donor.  United Way only funds programs that can withstand the scrutiny of the community investment review.  That is somewhat unique in the charitable giving world.

I don’t have time to research every charity that appeals to me for funds.  When I give to United Way, I know the supported programs provide needed services in a cost effective manner.   That is important to me.
