Mission Statement To directly engage the community, as individuals, in addressing the issue of Poverty and Financial Stability 2010 Goals: 1. Increase the number of residents in the Financial Peace Program 2. Conduct a Poverty Simulation 3. Increase low income youth participation in sports and expand art, music and dance scholarship opportunities 4. Increase programming for the summer lunch Program Action: Engaging low-income students from schools by pursuing financial and transportation options to decrease the barriers for participation. Networking with community partners to propose summer programs that would be offered during the summer lunch program. Support the efforts of the Financial Peace organizers and help recruit where possible Schedule a Poverty Simulation in spring, summer or fall of 2010 and recruit community members to attend Investigated transportation issues and support formation of a Transportation Affinity Group. Something to Talk About The Let's Talk Initiative is under the United Way of Muscatine umbrella. It is defined as a community forum for problem solving and sharing ideas through organized affinity groups.
