State Farm Announced on November 11, 2009 that the United Way of Muscatine "Kids First Fund" has been selected to receive a $1,000 educational grant as part of the State Farm es Para Mi Campaign. United Way of Muscatine was one of 71 selected nationwide to receive a grant .

Launched in July of 2008, State Farm es Para Mi is in collaboration with many community partners. Its focus primarily on citizenship;voter registration; and education. This program is just one way that State Farm strives to build safer, stronger, and better educated communities.

As part of the education outreach component, State Farm awarded 71 grants nationally to schools and non-profit organizations based on how those groups work to close the academic achievement gap and encourage students to stay in school and receive their high school diplomas. These educational grant opportunities were designed to support work within local communities that lead to increasing graduation rates of students.

State Farm Agent Brenda Garcia-Van Auken announced, "We are proud to support the United Way of Muscatine in its effort to keep students in school. The Kids First Youth Participation Project is an exceptional program that places students on the right track toward graduation through involvement in extra-curricular activities."
