In the summer of 2010, Muscatine Community Volunteer Solutions teamed up with Muscatine Community College to create a satellite volunteer office at the college. This opportunity creates a year-long internship at the United Way offices for one lucky student, and helps connect the students at the college to volunteer opportunities in our community. During the first year of the program, we had over 20 students enrolled and over 400 hours volunteer work recorded for 2010! The students assisted during our annual Day of Caring, worked on a farm, delivered meals to seniors in our community, helped our service agencies, participated in our Nite at the Races fundraiser, and much, much more! Thank you to our first year intern, Catina LeRoy, for starting the program off, and laying the ground work for many years to come. Many thanks also go to her advisor Jim Elias, for arranging the program at the college and helping Catina to build the foundation of the program. We see many great things to come from this partnership in 2011-2012, as our new intern Abby Curtis joined us in June. Abby currently holds the title of Miss Louisa County, and competed for Miss Iowa in June. Look for her to join our staff and make great strides in this program!
